Warnock's House Party Doug Gill and Lynn Langhamwith Special Guest Mac WalterThursday, July 25th 2013Hosted by Archie and Pris Warnock |
We'd like to invite all of you to join us on July 25 for an evening of music from two world-class songwriters, Doug Gill and Lynn Langham. They'll be joined by local guitar legend Mac Walter. Doug was nominated for a Grammy for 'I Just Came Here For The Music' (recorded by Don Williams and Alison Krauss) and Lynn scored the title cut on the Emmylou Harris/Rodney Crowell album 'Old Yellow Moon.' Over the past 4 years or so, Mac has had an opportunity to play with them many times at the Frank Brown International Songwriters Festival in Perdido Key, Florida and those gigs have been magical. We are fortunate that Doug and Lynn just happen to be coming through the area on their way north and we picked this specific night for the party so that Mac would be available to join them. Doug Gill has spent the last thirty years writing, recording and performing music in Nashville. He has worked with some of the best writers and musicians on the planet and has had songs recorded by a long and illustrious list of artists, including Patty Loveless, Pam Tillis, Chris LeDoux, Tammy Wynette, Wynonna and the Marshall Tucker Band. Doug's song "I Just Come Here For The Music" was recorded last year by Don Williams and Alison Krauss on Williams' new album, "And So It Goes", and nominated for a Grammy award. He currently operates his own publishing company, Peacehouse Music, and has just completed a second studio album. His powerful songs speak of strength and redemption, passion and perseverence, and he sings them with a voice that resonates with the truth. Lynn Langham is a native Texan and began her performing and songwriting career in Austin. She lived and performed in both New York and Los Angeles before moving to Nashville. She has opened shows for John Prine, Rodney Crowell, Cheech andChong, Leon Redbone, Asleep at the Wheel and Larry Gatlin, to name a few. While in L.A., she did character voices for the popular toy, Teddy Ruxpin, a talking teddy bear that has sold over thirty million tapes worldwide. She has also appeared as a studio musician and back-up vocalist on numerous recordings by such artists as Johnny Cash, Emmylou Harris, Albert Lee and Jerry Lee Lewis. As a staff writer for Hayes Street Music in Nashville, she has had songs recorded by Wynonna, Carolyn Hester, Ty Herndon, Trisha Yearwood, Lynn Anderson and Holly Dunn among others. She has also had numerous songs released by independent artists, including Elizabeth Cook and Shake Russell. "Trains", a collaboration with Texas artist Bonnie Bishop, was in the Texas top ten for several months. Most recently, Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell recorded her song "Old Yellow Moon", written with Hank DeVito, It is the title cut of their new duet album "Old Yellow Moon" and Lynn is playing piano on the track. Her beautiful, contemplative songs and a delivery of pure honey and southern smoke make Lynn Langham one of the most spellbinding performers you will ever see. Local guitar legend Mac Walter is an exciting, versatile, dynamic master of the guitar and a role model to would-be players for his dedication and virtuosity on the instrument. His fingerstyle synergy always leaves an audience on their feet and wanting more. Mac's repertoire is a stunning variety of musical styles and reflects the depth and range of emotion he conveys in his playing. His command of the acoustic guitar is breathtaking and he is one of those rare musicians who can do it all while still maintaining his own distinctive voice. He makes the guitar come to life with a rare passion and plays at a level few musicians ever achieve. He is a guitar virtuoso who has to be seen to be believed. |
